Come up with a Parenting Plan

As parents, you should come up with a favorable parenting plan. If the children are big enough, you can include them in decision making. Parents are advised to come up with the arrangement on their own, but if they can’t, a lawyer or mediator can be involved.

This is to mean that the child or parent receiving child support does not owe the government payments or taxes on the same. To make sure that the law works for them, the parents giving child support should ensure that the monthly payments are indicated as child support. Child support payments should be separated from spousal payments. It should not be included in family support.

This is major because, while child support is tax-free, spousal payment is termed as income hence taxable. Parents should make a final agreement which differentiates, child support from spousal support. This lessens the burden of taxes on custodial parents.
